A Rosé of your heart

chateau de berne copy

In the romantic month of February, we bring you 5 Rose wines that sparkle and excite. Believed to be the oldest style of wine in the world, rose is traditionally dry and crisp, and hails originally from the Provence region of France – mainly branded as a ladies drink. Now, it is no longer only a summer wine to be drunk on a sunny terrace. A symbol of style and fashion, the Rose wine becomes popular… with men. And we’re not surprised… with more and more producers starting to make ultra-premium Rose wines.

Besides, a rose’s fashionable pink is in itself, an appeal.

Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Rose

Domaine Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Rosé La Moussiere 2013

Retail Price: S$ 54.00

About the Wine: An intense, aromatic, brilliantly clear and well-balanced Pinot Noir with a delicate mineral structure, a good aromatic length and a true Sancerre character. We can find raspberry, red currant and floral on the nose, with freshness and finesse. Spicy notes of pink pepper.

About the Winery: At the beginning of the XIX century, ALPHONSE MELLOT founded a tavern in Sancerre where one could savour the local wines and so began a flourishing trade that was to continue. In 1881 he was granted a licence to ship his wine throughout France and all over the World. This marked the beginning of a pacific conquest which has been pursued and developed by the family business from father to son ever since, with the eldest son continuing to bear the name of the Founder Alphonse. The wines are produced from the upper Sancerre vineyard, the most famous of which is the « DOMAINE LA MOUSSIERE ». Its exceptional quality has led to it being officially classified as a unique category amongst the Sancerre wines. The DOMAINE DE LA MOUSSIERE comprises one single vineyard of over thirty hectares.

Champagne Tarlant Rose

Champagne Tarlant Rosé Zero Brut Nature N.V

Retail Price: S$ 112.00

About the Wine: Rosé Zero is an invitation to revel in the most explosive of pink Champagnes, redolent with the natural flavours of fruits and spices. The contemporary elegance of the bottle, the rarity of zero sugar dosage and the generosity of the emotions it produces makes it a unique pink Champagne.

About the Winery: At the heart of the left bank of the Marne Valley, Benoit Tarlant is gradually taking over from his parents the 14 ha vineyards. He cultivated this vineyard with care, using only organic fertilisers. His vinegrowing is painstaking, perfectly adapted to the mosaic of different soils and subsoils with flint-bearing sand, through clay and limestone to pure chalk. A real policy of vintages has been adopted and like the very best Champagne houses, the Tarlant only release their wines at their peak after eight to ten years cellaring.

Food Pairing: As a dessert, Strawberry or Raspberry Souffle topped with some ice-cream
