Margaret river, australia
Rated as a 5 Star Winery in the 2015 edition of the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, the family owned Miles from Nowhere winery has a unique emphasis on high quality, hand crafted wines.
Miles from Nowhere is all about a passion for winemaking. This passion drove them to want to make their own wine. So one by one they gathered precious little pockets of exceptional land and vineyards, scattered across the Margaret River region of Western Australia and based their winemaking on a property in Cowaramup.
Franklin, wine principal, spent several years looking for outstanding sites and within these the best micro terroirs, to find a balance and diversity of soils capable of reducing yield and concentrating flavours. Only the finest grapes in each vineyard are considered for inclusion in their wines. Besides, an immense commitment is placed on only making a small amount of wine from the varietals the region does best.
Situated 6km down a winding back road off Yallingup’s Bussell Highway, Alexanders Vineyard has 65 hectares of fully mature vines. Not too far away is Miamup Vineyard, located in the south of the Wilyabrup growing area – an area that has been described as possessing all the Bordeaux’s strengths and none of its drawbacks. Both vineyards are located inside the prime Margaret River grape-growing appellation.
The Margaret River region is actually made up of a fairly diverse range of soil types and micro-climates. For this reason, each plot of land is distinct. Even within the same property there can be marked differences between the quality and style of neighbouring wines.
Only making a tiny amount of wine that is the ultimate expression of what the region does best, Miles from Nowhere focuses largely on coaxing the best out of their vineyards.
