About the Wine:Very concentrated in colour. Deep and complex nose with lots of aromatic nuances, yet maintaining the balance between them. In the mouth it is vibrant, in a set of great elegance, showing an excellent integration of the wood, a surprisingly large variety of flavours, and a very long aftertaste.
About the Winery: In 1877, Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, queen of the 19th century Douro Valley and owner of the largest winemaking estate in the Douro, purchased 300 hectares of virgin land at auction from the Vila Nova de Foz Côa municipality. Since then, the estate always remained in the hands of her descendants. In the 1970s, her great-great-great-grandson, Francisco Javier de Olazabal became responsible for its management and he began the long and laborious process of acquiring the shares that belonged to his kin and to other co-owners of the property. In 1994, he and his children became the sole owners of the Quinta.

About the Wine: There were some high-toned red fruit aromas that were ripe with a note of Pilsner. In the mouth were ripe red fruit flavors, along with some cranberry, that had a hint of roundness before blacker, not quite earthy, fruit came out. There was good focus to the fruit. The ripeness built in the mouth with flavors that stuck to the gums. It left flavors of dried spices in the aftertaste and cinnamon on the back of the through. There was a Pilsner flavor with air.
About the Winery: Domaine Leon Barral consists of 25 hectares in the Haut Languedoc, north of Bezier. Didier Barral (Leon was his grandfatehr) is considered one of the best wine makers (and by many the best) in this traditionally undervalued appellation, drawing acclaim for his very naturally made wines, with low levels of sulfur.
