The story of the Moro family began in 1932, when Emilio Moro Sr. was born. It is now a project carried out by three generations with roots in the Ribera del Duero, who have spent their lives discovering the characteristics of its terroir. The goal? To produce intense and unique wines.

Bodegas Emilio Moro is the place where the values of the Moro family take shape. A space where traditional methods and the latest technology go hand in hand to obtain the best possible results. Legacy of manual ploughing, harvesting by hand and barbeque ribs with roast potatoes, the winery is today a seat of memories and a commitment towards progress: technology at the service of quality.

In Bodegas Emilio Moro you can experience for yourself the different aromas of each stay, the landscape of its vineyards, the stacked barrels and the sound of incessant activity. We invite you to feel at home.

The buildings have experienced various improvements since the inaugeration of the winery. Currently, there are four areas: administration, ageing, elaboration and warehousing. The ageing area covers three rooms, in which we control both the temperature and humidity. Around 4,000 barrels are stored in this area.

The section dedicate to elaboration includes the vat area, the grape hopper and the laboratory. The winery has 50 stainless steel vats of various capacities, of which 6 are 5,000 litre vats used in the elaboration of our single-estate wines.

The warehouse is the latest improvement in the winery, and includes the bottling and labeling areas, as well as the bottle-rack store which has capacity for upto 3 million bottles. The instalations are designed to allow maximum control of the whole process of tracebility, from vineyard to final sale of the wine.

1932 – The Founder, a Visionary

The story of the Moro family began in 1932, when Emilio Moro Sr. was born. It is now a project carried out by three generations with roots in the Ribera del Duero, who have spent their lives discovering the characteristics of its terroir. The goal? To produce intense and unique wines. Don Emilio Moro, second generation, is born in 1932. He learned everything there is to know about winemaking from his father, teaching his kids a love for winemaking.
This year the seeds for historic vineyard of Finca Resalso are sown

1989 – First Label

José Moro, the current President of Bodegas Emilio Moro, decides to distribute the wine that to which his father and grandfather had dedicated their lives.

1998 – Malleolus is Born

Emilio Moro ceases to use crianza, reserva and gran reserva to classify their wines, so each of their wines has a unique personality

2000 – First Single Vineyard Wine

Malleolus de Valderramiro is born (unveiled), a wine with character and personality given bequeathed by the clay soils of the Ribera del Duero.

2002 – Malleolus Brand Grows and Consolidates

The finesse and elegance of the chalky soils give birth to Malleolus de Sanchomartin.

2009 – Recognizing the Family Legacy

Emilio Moro Clon de la Familia is created to express tradition, personality, character and the passion of three generations.

A New Project: Godellos & Bierzo

Now Emilio Moro, headed by the third generation of a family dedicated to wine and committed to quality, launches production of its first white wine in an area far better known for its Mencía reds, but with a lot of potential introduce important white wines, which are distinct and very surprising.

At the moment, Bodegas Emilio Moro has produced 16,000 kilos of the Godello berciano variety from the 2016 vintage and different soils in order to gain knowledge of the Bierzo area and its vineyards and, although this has not been the best year in terms of vintage conditions, the first barrel tastings have shown good results. According to José Moro, president of the winery, “the objective now is to work on the aromatic profile of the Godello grape and know all its variables.”

This project was born with the challenge of adding a quality white to the already known range of its Emilio Moro and Cepa 21 reds. “We intend to produce a fine, elegant wine with fat, body and aging capacity,” explains Jose Moro, representative of the third generation of the Moro family, for which this is their first experience outside of Ribera del Duero. He adds: “We want to find the wine we are looking for and once we do, we will consider launching it to the market.”

About the Wine: The colour is pale golden, clean and bright. The nose is clean and highlights a stone fruit base, subtle citrus aromas and white flowers. The light roasted notes add complexity to the aromatic profile of the wine. In the palate, it is fresh and bright, with good weight and polished nuances.

Region: Bierzo

Grape Varietal: 100% Godello

About the Wine: With a pale golden color, the wine is presented with very intense aromas, full of nuances, where the varietals of Godello stand out like fresh stone fruits and subtle citrus and herbaceous. Once it develops, we can appreciate the great aromatic potential of this wine, the fruity aromas gain complexity and show hints of dried flowers and light toasted. In the palate is broad and well structured, with a long and balanced adicity.
