Mosel, Germany

Mosel is named after the famous Mosel River and includes its two most renowned tributaries, the Saar and Ruwer. The wines here are primarily made from the Riesling and are arguably the finest in Germany, with over 5446 hectares planted. The noble-sweet wines of this region fetch record prices every year at auctions, alongside excellent dry and semi-dry wines that win national and international competitions. Slate and Riesling dominate the vineyards, with other varietals grown in smaller quantitites. Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau) is the second most important grape variety and Elbling, an old grape variety on the Upper Mosel, may have been cultivated here for 2,000 years.
