Primo Franco - Nino Franco
Taking over the winery in 1982, Primo began to travel and to successfully export the wines in Europe as well as in the Americas and the Far East. At the same time he invested in the production process in order to make higher quality wines, eliminating all those wines that were atypical for the area. He also started to monitor closely the grape cultivation with the aim of achieving high quality from the raw material level to the final product.
Primo Franco was one of the first pioneers to export the Prosecco and to introduce a different sparkling wine than Champagne into the international market. He has been successful, thanks to his open mind personality, his spontaneity, reliability and competence as well as his charm and ability to communicate his love for his job, and last but not least thanks to his high quality and delicious wines
Primo Franco, third generation descendent of the prosecco house, Nino Franco, was back in Singapore last year and here’s what he has to say.
The first bottle of Primo Franco was a turning point for Prosecco. Before the early ’80s, the marketplace considered Prosecco a “Sweet” wine to be served only with desserts. Then in 1983, the first bottle of Primo Franco Prosecco, opened the way to think about Prosecco with the dignity of an adaptable spaprkling wine with great personality.
Pride and Joy. The Primo Franco was produced with grapes from a single vineyard. It was the first Prosecco to label the wine with the vintage and i decided to put my name on the label to show how serious we are. I have always been seen as a ‘renegade’.
Proudly Family Owned. My wife takes care of our bed and breakfast property and my daughter, Silvia, travels the world to take care of the global markets. She chose to continue the Nino Franco legacy.
Nino Franco was founded in 1919 by Antonio Franco in Valdobbiadene. The winery is located at the foot of the Prealps, in the Venetian region and proud to be one of the oldest wineries in Valdobbiadene. Known for their Prosecco vine, the estate has been growing and evolving throughout four generations of producers. Antonio founded it, Nino expanded it, Primo improved international distribution and today, Silvia Franco is the future of the brand.
