Gewurztraminer

If you’re looking for an aromatic, sweet white wine, Gewürztraminer (ga-VERTZ-trah-mee-ner) should be your go-to selection. A white wine born in the Alsace region of France, this wine actually smells identical to lychee fruit. Seriously, the wine shares the same aroma compounds as the exotic fruit. So if you’re ever tasting Gewürztraminer and someone asks what you smell, you can always say lychee — you’ll never be wrong!

This flavor and smell makes Gewürztraminer perfect for drinking with spicy Asian food, or delicious on its own as well.

Most Gewürztraminers are usually considered semi-dry, so they are a bit sweet, but that also makes them much lower in alcohol than your usual wine. A good comparison to Gewürztraminer in terms of its alcohol level and quaffability would be Moscato.

Alsace and Germany are still the most prominent regions that produce Gewürztraminer, but you can also commonly find it from countries such as Austria and regions in the US such as Washington, Oregon and California. Spanish Winery GRAMONA has also came up with their take on the grape with a lovely bottle of Vi de Glass Gewürztraminer.
