TRENTINO-ALTO ADIGEThis is Italy’s most norther region, it is so mountainous that only 15% of the land can be cultivated. Trentino- Alto Adige has the highest proportions of DOC’s in all of Italy and much of the wine sold here is under the varietal names. Predominate red grapes used in the region are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir), Teroldego and Lagrein. White varietals used are: Moscato, Traminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanco (Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris), Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.
