The 2006 Petit Verdot was aged in barrel for 24 months. Purple/black in color, it displays an enticing nose of toasty oak, pencil lead, mineral, espresso, licorice, and blackberry. Sweetly fruited, ripe, and full-flavored, it lacks only complexity. However, that may come with another 4-5 years of cellaring. This behemoth has 6-8 years of aging potential and a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2026, probably longer.

Very intense colour, deeper concentration than previous vintages Dark black cherry. Complex and attractive nose, fresh, deep red fruit, and a touch of eucalyptus well blended together in the wood, hints of roasted coffee and caramel after a few minutes in the glass. Full and powerful attack. A very soft and gentle entrance that leads to a very expressive and aromatic wine in the mouth. Great balance between alcohol, acidity and structure with very fine and soft quality tannins. A very long wine, very persistent.

"These are impressive wines, although in terms of value for money, I would head straight to the 2009 Seleccion Especial, a blend of 75% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah. It has a rounded, iodine-tinged bouquet with great purity and panache, the oak seamlessly integrated with scents of black coffee developing over time. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy texture, crisp acidity and very fine tannins.
