Tuscany

The classic wine of Tuscany is Chianti with the principal grape being Sangiovese. Chianti Classico DOCG must be made of 100% Sangiovese, while other Chianti’s must have a minimum of 75%. In order for a Chianti to be classified as a Riserva, the wine must be aged for a minimum of three years in oak before release.
Other note worth grapes and wines produced in the area are Brunello (Brunello di Montalcino), Prugnolo (Vino Nobile di Montepulciano) and a dessert wine called Vin Santo which is a sweet wine that is deliberately left to oxidize before release.
