In Friuli-Venezia while more red wine is produced, it is the white wines that have the outstanding reputation. Here varietal names are prominent on the labels and the best wines come from the region of Collio. In total twenty grape varieties are allowed to be used in wine production with the predominate being: Pinot Grigio, Picolit (dessert wines), Pinot Blanco (Pinot Blanc), Riesling, Traminer, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
