Quick Overview

Pale straw with a golden hue in color, followed by fine and delicate bubbles. Citrus, floral and mineral aromas are noted on the nose, and are later partnered by a fresh and elegant palate. A perfectly balance and enjoyable sparkling cremant.

Domaine Du Vissoux Cremant De Bourgogne

Domaine du Vissoux is a family-run wine estate, located in the southern Beaujolais region of Burgundy. Maurice Chermette, first took ownership of the vineyard in the early 1950’s and at the time sold his wine
predominately in bulk to some of Burgundy top brokers. Through great care and dedication Maurice was able to work his way up and be noted as one of the top wine producers in the area.

In 1982 Pierre-Marie Chermette (Maurice’s son) took over the family estate and decided to start producing wines under his owe label. From the very beginning Pierre-Marie Chermette has been committed to quality over quantity, and prides himself on being involved in every step of his estates winemaking process, sales and pushing the boundaries in Beaujolais.
In 1988 Pierre-Marie Chermette took up a challenge of launching non-chaptalised Beaujolais Nouveau vieilles vignes. This Beaujolais Nouveau has since become one of the estate’s leading wines.

In 1994 and 1996 Pierre-Marie added to Domain du Vissoux holdings by obtaining vineyards in Moulin a Vent (Fleurie) and made history by becoming one of the first vinegrower-winemakers to produce Cru Beaujolais. In 2002 vineyard were further bought in Moulin a Vent (La Rochelle) and finally in 2006 Brouilly (Pierreux).

To date the estate of Domain Vissoux is scene as a forerunner in the region and is a firm believer that “integrated agriculture” is the way to obtain optimum success levels in the vineyard and at the winery. All grapes are manually harvested and sorted once they reach there peak ripeness. Vinification is left to occur as naturally as possible, which is why no chemical produced yeast or chaptalisation are added or occur and minimum amounts of sulfur dioxide are used.

Combining tradition and modernity, Domain du Vissoux is fully committed to producing some of the high quality and authentic produced terroir white, rose, sparkling and red wines from Beaujolais, and of course one cannot forget there famous crème de cassis made using there own black currants.

The distinctively delicious NV Cremant de Bourgogne Extra Brut – a blend of Chardonnay from 2006, 2007, and 2008 – brims with tangerine, pineapple and lime. Exuberantly aromatic and vividly and lusciously citric, it is mouth-filling yet delicate, and finishes with a salt-tinged, saliva-inducing and invigorating savor. Although there is no lot designation on the label and I hesitate to review a non-vintage cuvee under those circumstances, this is so delicious it would be a shame not to give an account.
