Quick Overview

An exceedingly fine, restrained and exact expression of 2002. Wisps of lemon blossom, a hint of lime, a note of almond and signature Le Mesnil minerality permeate through a delicate, lingering finish. Tightly wound citrus fruit lies dormant in coiled up suspension, hinting at great things to come in the cellar.

Delamotte Blanc De Blancs 2002

Located in the Cote des Blanc region, Champagne Delamotte was founded in 1760, and is the sixth-oldest Champagne house. Delamotte wines are made with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes sourced exclusively from Côte des Blancs grand cru vineyards. As far as Champagne houses, Delamotte is considered a small house with an annual production of 400,000 bottles per year. Delamotte wines are made by chef de cave Michel Fauconnet, who assumed his role in 2004 after working as an assistant to Alain Terrier at Laurent-Perrier for 20 years. Michel is also in charge of champagne production for Delamotte’s sister house Salon.
Champagne Delamotte’s winemaking requires vigorous effort and top-quality fruit, that is hand harvested and sorted. Unlike Salon, malolactic fermentation does occur with Delamotte wines and disgorges occurs every three to four months. Riddling of bottles is done solely by hand by Delamotte’s “remueurs” each of whom is capable of turning 50,000 bottles a day.
This is a champagne with character and finesse, yet easy to drink. Outstanding quality borne of tradition and high standards of winemaking. Delamotte champagne is an excellent wine at a surprisingly affordable price..

93 points Pear, white peach, white flowers, honey, a hint of light caramel, flint and limestone. The nose is generous, sweet, ripe and mineral. The palate is in line with the nose with ripe fruit, excellent concentration and bright acidity. This is very ripe yet fresh but very little brioche, more Salon than Krug if that make sense.
